[Cable Network News] According to PNG DataCo, a local media in Papua New Guinea, with the submarine cable landing in Arawa, Bougainville, the first phase of the country ’s Kumul domestic submarine cable system has now been completed.

 

The project is an 85% preferential buyer's credit provided by the Export-Import Bank of China and is currently being laid by Huawei to prepare the Coral Sea Submarine Optical Cable System (CSCS).

The goal of Kumul's domestic submarine cable is to connect 15 coastal cities between Port Moresby, Alota, Popunda, Ley and Madang province.

According to the plan, the Kumul system consists of three parts: System 1 connects Jayapura to Arawa, and connects Vanimo, Wewak, Lorengau, Madang, Kimbe, Kavieng and Kokopo through seven branches; the second phase spans 1,874 kilometers and connects horses When connecting to Port Moresby, and connecting it to Lei, Popondeta and Alota by three branch paths (completed in December 2018).

The third stage is to connect Daru and Kerema to the existing branch path in the 200 km PNG LNG system. The project should be completed and handed over to Papua New Guinea by mid-2020.
